In value terms, safety headgear exports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Australia (X units), Sweden (X units) and the United States (X units) were the main destinations of safety headgear exports from Malaysia, together accounting for 46% of total exports. These countries were followed by Canada, Germany, the UK, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Taiwan (Chinese), France, Indonesia, Spain and Singapore, which together accounted for a further 46%.

In 2021, overseas purchases of safety headgear increased by 42% to X units, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 605%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, safety headgear imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 436%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of safety headgear to Malaysia, with a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, safety headgear imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (X units), more than tenfold. Hong Kong SAR (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 2.8% share.
