In 2022, overseas purchases of saturated acyclic hydrocarbons increased by 0.9% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 184%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, saturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 141%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, South Korea (X tons) constituted the largest saturated acyclic hydrocarbons supplier to Malaysia, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, saturated acyclic hydrocarbons imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Saudi Arabia (X tons), with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Korea totaled -8.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+4.8% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-16.1% per year).
In value terms, South Korea ($X) constituted the largest supplier of saturated acyclic hydrocarbons to Malaysia, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from South Korea stood at -8.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-8.1% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-17.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country

Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.
