From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, silicone imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -15.7% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 77%. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main suppliers of silicone imports to Malaysia, with a combined 72% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the United States, Germany, Taiwan (Chinese), the Netherlands, South Korea and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 20%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +13.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
