Skim Milk Market Size in Malaysia

In 2021, the Malaysian skim milk market increased by 52% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced setback. Skim milk consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, skim milk production rose significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. Exports from Malaysia

In 2021, overseas shipments of skim milk decreased by -66.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 921% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, skim milk exports declined markedly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 814% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Mauritania (X tons), Angola (X tons) and Oman (X tons) were the main destinations of skim milk exports from Malaysia, with a combined 53% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Benin, Comoros, Singapore, Gambia and Congo, which together accounted for a further 39%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Yemen (with a CAGR of +34.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Angola ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for skim milk exports from Malaysia, comprising 42% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Angola amounted to +15.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Oman (+25.2% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+7.3% per year).

The average skim milk export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 66% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Congo ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Gambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Congo (+30.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Malaysia

In 2021, skim milk imports into Malaysia reduced to X tons, falling by -6.3% against 2020. Overall, imports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 343%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, skim milk imports contracted significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 329% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The UK (X tons), New Zealand (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of skim milk imports to Malaysia, together comprising 55% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +36.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, New Zealand ($X), Singapore ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest skim milk suppliers to Malaysia, with a combined 44% share of total imports.
