The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 309%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+54.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Malaysia
In 2022, overseas purchases of snails (except sea snails) decreased by -6% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 1,410% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, snail imports rose remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 271% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Indonesia (X tons) constituted the largest snail supplier to Malaysia, with a 52% share of total imports. Moreover, snail imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X tons), with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Indonesia totaled +5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+19.4% per year) and China (+28.7% per year).
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), China ($X) and Thailand ($X) were the largest snail suppliers to Malaysia, with a combined 71% share of total imports. New Zealand, Vietnam, Pakistan and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.
Among the main suppliers, Tanzania, with a CAGR of +36.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average snail import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 304% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
