Concrete Tile Market Size in Malaysia
The Malaysian concrete tile market reduced to $X in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Exports from Malaysia
In 2022, the amount of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone exported from Malaysia contracted notably to X tons, waning by -16.3% against 2021 figures. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 139% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, concrete tile exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2022. In general, exports showed a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 72%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Singapore (X tons) was the main destination for concrete tile exports from Malaysia, accounting for a 79% share of total exports. Moreover, concrete tile exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X tons), fivefold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Singapore totaled -9.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Japan (-3.5% per year) and Brunei Darussalam (+8.5% per year).
In value terms, Singapore ($X), Japan ($X) and Brunei Darussalam ($X) constituted the largest markets for concrete tile exported from Malaysia worldwide, with a combined 81% share of total exports.
Brunei Darussalam, with a CAGR of +4.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average concrete tile export price amounted to $X per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed pronounced growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Brunei Darussalam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Concrete Tile Imports
Imports into Malaysia
In 2022, the amount of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone imported into Malaysia skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 16% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 262%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, concrete tile imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 480%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of concrete tile to Malaysia, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, concrete tile imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tons), tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Singapore (X tons), with a 5.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +40.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (-6.9% per year) and Singapore (+3.5% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone to Malaysia, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Singapore ($X), with a 1.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +43.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+5.7% per year) and Thailand (-5.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average concrete tile import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 140% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+11.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
