The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 70%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, veneer sheet exports reached $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Taiwan (Chinese) (X square meters), China (X square meters) and South Korea (X square meters) were the main destinations of veneer sheet exports from Malaysia, with a combined 70% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, Japan, India, the United States and Australia, which together accounted for a further 27%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +32.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for veneer sheet exported from Malaysia were Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), Japan ($X) and South Korea ($X), with a combined 56% share of total exports. China, India, the Philippines, the United States and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 36% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2017 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to China ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (-7.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Malaysia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of veneer sheets and sheets for plywood and other wood sawn lengthwise decreased by -22.7% to X square meters for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 101%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X square meters in 2021, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, veneer sheet imports declined to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 75%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Brazil (X square meters), China (X square meters) and Australia (X square meters) were the main suppliers of veneer sheet imports to Malaysia, with a combined 72% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Brazil (with a CAGR of +78.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of veneer sheets and sheets for plywood and other wood sawn lengthwise to Malaysia, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with a 10% share.
