Singapore (X tons) was the main destination for wheat and meslin flour exports from Malaysia, accounting for a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, wheat and meslin flour exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Thailand (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Brunei Darussalam (X tons), with a 13% share.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the key foreign market for wheat and meslin flour exports from Malaysia, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Brunei Darussalam, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Singapore totaled -1.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+2.3% per year) and Brunei Darussalam (-0.1% per year).

The average wheat and meslin flour export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 6.9%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Angola ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Malaysia
After five years of growth, purchases abroad of wheat and meslin flour decreased by -2.6% to X tons in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, wheat and meslin flour imports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of wheat and meslin flour to Malaysia, with a 54% share of total imports. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($X per ton), while the price for Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
