In 2021, the MENA's adhesive dressings market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -29.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 55%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, adhesive dressings exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

Turkey represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which amounted to 65% of total exports. Egypt (X tons) held a 27% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (6.6%).

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +12.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+15.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +15.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Egypt (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+36 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Egypt (-30.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, the largest adhesive dressings supplying countries in MENA were Egypt ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 98% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Turkey, with a CAGR of +12.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Export price indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, adhesive dressings export price increased by +72.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 74% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, leveling off in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+13.8%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, the amount of adhesive dressings or similar articles imported in MENA expanded significantly to X tons, picking up by 12% compared with the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, adhesive dressings imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) represented the key importers of adhesive dressings or similar articles in MENA, together resulting at near 37% of total imports. Iran (X tons) held an 8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Iraq (7.9%), Algeria (7.2%), Turkey (6.9%), Yemen (4.8%) and Israel (4.6%). Libya (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Yemen (with a CAGR of +9.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Israel, Iran, Kuwait, Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Libya, Yemen and Tunisia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 33%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +16.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 18% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
