Total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +79.2% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, anti-freezing preparations exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +115.3% against 2016 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which amounted to 52% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took a 24% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Morocco (8.2%) and Oman (4.6%). The following exporters - Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Iran (X tons) - each finished at an 8.2% share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Morocco (+125.7%), Oman (+51.3%), the United Arab Emirates (+9.8%) and Saudi Arabia (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +125.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Iran (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Morocco (+8.2 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+6.9 p.p.) and Oman (+4.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Turkey and Iran saw its share reduced by -6.7% and -8.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest anti-freezing preparations supplying countries in MENA were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Morocco ($X), together comprising 85% of total exports.

Morocco, with a CAGR of +102.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, surging by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a slight reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 25%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA

In 2021, imports of anti-freezing preparations and prepared de-icing fluids in MENA surged to X tons, growing by 41% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +111.6% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The purchases of the three major importers of anti-freezing preparations and prepared de-icing fluids, namely Turkey, Algeria and the United Arab Emirates, represented more than half of total import. Iraq (X tons) held a 7.5% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Morocco (6.4%), Libya (5.9%) and Israel (5.2%).

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest anti-freezing preparations importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Algeria ($X), with a combined 57% share of total imports. Iraq, Israel, Morocco and Libya lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.

Iraq, with a CAGR of +15.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Libya (+4.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
