In 2021, the MENA's antimony ore and concentrate market decreased by -14.2% to $X, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. In general, consumption faced a deep setback. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

For the third year in a row, MENA recorded growth in overseas shipments of antimony ores and concentrates, which increased by 8.5% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 61%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, antimony ore and concentrate exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded resilient growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 93% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), mixing up a 6.1% share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antimony ores and concentrates exports, with a CAGR of +9.5% from 2012 to 2021. The United Arab Emirates (-48.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Turkey and the United Arab Emirates increased by +10 and +6.1 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest antimony ore and concentrate supplier in MENA, comprising 98% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 2.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to +6.5%.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 120% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a slight decrease. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (-2.4%).

In 2021, purchases abroad of antimony ores and concentrates was finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. In general, imports, however, recorded a sharp slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 409% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, antimony ore and concentrate imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 346% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Turkey (X tons) represented the main importer of antimony ores and concentrates, generating 65% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Algeria (X tons). All these countries together took near 29% share of total imports. The following importers - Syrian Arab Republic (X kg) and Lebanon (X kg) - each recorded a 4.4% share of total imports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antimony ores and concentrates imports, with a CAGR of +67.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Syrian Arab Republic (+6.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Algeria (-3.1%), Lebanon (-3.7%) and the United Arab Emirates (-46.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+65 p.p.), Algeria (+6.6 p.p.), Syrian Arab Republic (+2.4 p.p.) and Lebanon (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -77.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, the largest antimony ore and concentrate importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), Algeria ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together accounting for 88% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Turkey, with a CAGR of +50.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -30.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 211%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
