In value terms, artificial guts exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a buoyant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the main exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 77% of total exports. Morocco (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Iran (4.5%). The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to artificial guts exports from Turkey stood at +15.5%. At the same time, Morocco (+35.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (+11.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +35.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Iran (-5.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey and Morocco increased by +35 and +14 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest artificial guts supplier in MENA, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Morocco ($X), with a 7.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Iran, with a 5.1% share.

In Turkey, artificial guts exports expanded at an average annual rate of +21.3% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Morocco (+43.9% per year) and Iran (-9.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+6.1%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2022, purchases abroad of artificial guts (sausage skins) increased by 12% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 113%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, artificial guts imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which finished at 51% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Israel (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Algeria (X tons), together creating a 35% share of total imports. Palestine (X tons) and Jordan (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Palestine (+20.5%), Jordan (+9.9%), Morocco (+3.0%), the United Arab Emirates (+1.7%) and Israel (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Palestine emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Algeria (-8.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+19 p.p.) and Palestine (+2.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Algeria saw its share reduced by -7.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with an 8.5% share.

In Turkey, artificial guts imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Israel (+0.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+0.4% per year).
