Bambara Bean Market Size in MENA

In 2022, the MENA's bambara bean market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced setback. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Bambara Bean Production in MENA

In value terms, bambara bean production expanded remarkably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the production volume increased by 26%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Egypt (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of bambara bean production, comprising approx. 49% of total volume. Moreover, bambara bean production in Egypt exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Saudi Arabia (X tons), with a 17% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in Egypt totaled +1.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+21.3% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+1.8% per year).

Exports in MENA

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of bambara beans decreased by -81.3% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 1,983%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, bambara bean exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 2,215% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Jordan (X tons) was the main exporter of bambara beans, making up 55% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons), together comprising a 43% share of total exports. Turkey (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lebanon (with a CAGR of +17.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Jordan ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Lebanon ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 75% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +16.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 39% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Turkey ($X per ton) and Lebanon ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Jordan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Bambara Bean Imports

Imports in MENA

In 2022, the amount of bambara beans imported in MENA declined modestly to X tons, shrinking by -2.8% on the year before. In general, imports saw a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bambara bean imports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 47%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Lebanon (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) dominates imports structure, together committing 86% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Qatar (X tons), creating a 6.9% share of total imports. The following importers - Jordan (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) - each recorded a 5.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Jordan (with a CAGR of +3.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, Lebanon ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported bambara beans in MENA, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Yemen ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Qatar, with an 11% share.

In Lebanon, bambara bean imports plunged by an average annual rate of -14.8% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Yemen (-14.5% per year) and Qatar (-2.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
