In 2022, Egypt (X tons) represented the key exporter of beet-pulp and bagasse, committing 87% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), making up an 11% share of total exports.

Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of beet-pulp and bagasse. At the same time, Turkey (+82.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. In Egypt, beet-pulp and bagasse exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012-2022.

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, growing by 45% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Turkey amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.3%).

Imports in MENA

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of beet-pulp and bagasse, when their volume increased by 35% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, beet-pulp and bagasse imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of beet-pulp and bagasse, namely Morocco, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) and Lebanon (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +95.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest beet-pulp and bagasse importing markets in MENA were Morocco ($X), Turkey ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), with a combined 92% share of total imports. Lebanon and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 2.1%.

Syrian Arab Republic, with a CAGR of +37.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Import price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, beet-pulp and bagasse import price increased by +36.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 24%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+4.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
