In 2021, overseas shipments of brassieres, girdles and corsets increased by 41% to X tons, rising for the fourth consecutive year after two years of decline. Total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +72.7% against 2017 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, brassiere, girdle and corset exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +45.6% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 67%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Turkey represented the main exporter of brassieres, girdles and corsets in MENA, with the volume of exports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 62% of total exports in 2021. Morocco (X tons) held a 19% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Tunisia (7.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (5.7%). Jordan (X tons) and Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Oman (+71.1%), the United Arab Emirates (+34.3%) and Morocco (+14.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +71.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Tunisia (-3.3%) and Jordan (-8.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+17 p.p.), Morocco (+8.1 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Jordan (-9.7 p.p.) and Tunisia (-12.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the largest brassiere, girdle and corset supplying countries in MENA were Morocco ($X), Turkey ($X) and Tunisia ($X), together accounting for 90% of total exports. These countries were followed by the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Oman, which together accounted for a further 8.6%.
Oman, with a CAGR of +68.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -13.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+8.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Brassieres, Girdles And Corsets
Imports in MENA
In 2021, the amount of brassieres, girdles and corsets imported in MENA skyrocketed to X tons, with an increase of 17% on 2020. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, brassiere, girdle and corset imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The United Arab Emirates was the key importer of brassieres, girdles and corsets in MENA, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 40% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Israel (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Qatar (X tons), together constituting a 43% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to brassiere, girdle and corset imports into the United Arab Emirates stood at -2.6%. At the same time, Iraq (+43.8%), Qatar (+34.3%), Morocco (+21.1%), Turkey (+6.6%), Saudi Arabia (+6.4%) and Israel (+4.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iraq emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +43.8% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Morocco and Turkey increased by +4.8, +4.7, +4.1, +3.5 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported brassieres, girdles and corsets in MENA, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with a 12% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, brassiere, girdle and corset imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+11.7% per year) and Israel (+3.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
