Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, overseas shipments of brooms, brushes, and mops increased by 11% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop exports rose slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Turkey was the main exporting country with an export of about X units, which reached 57% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 25% share, followed by Tunisia (5.2%). The following exporters - Egypt (X units) and Morocco (X units) - together made up 7.6% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to broom, brush, and mop exports from Turkey stood at +6.6%. At the same time, Morocco (+12.1%) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Egypt (-1.3%) and Tunisia (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+15 p.p.) and Morocco (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Egypt (-2.4 p.p.) and Tunisia (-6.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest broom, brush, and mop supplier in MENA, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 5.7% share.

In Turkey, broom, brush, and mop exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+3.8% per year) and Egypt (+6.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, waning by -5.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 8.9% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Tunisia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+7.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Brooms, Brushes, And Mops

Imports in MENA

In 2022, broom, brush, and mop imports in MENA totaled X units, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 9.2%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, broom, brush, and mop imports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United Arab Emirates (X units), distantly followed by Turkey (X units), Iraq (X units), Israel (X units) and Algeria (X units) represented the main importers of brooms, brushes, and mops, together comprising 73% of total imports. Iran (X units), Kuwait (X units), Morocco (X units), Libya (X units), Tunisia (X units), Yemen (X units), Oman (X units) and Djibouti (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +15.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Israel ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 49% share of total imports. Iraq, Kuwait, Morocco, Algeria, Iran, Oman, Libya, Yemen, Djibouti and Tunisia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 35%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Djibouti, with a CAGR of +10.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -10.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 8.8%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per unit), while Tunisia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
