Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, calendering machine exports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 45%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, resulting at X units, which was approx. 76% of total exports in 2021. The United Arab Emirates (X units) held an 8.9% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Israel (7.5%). The following exporters - Saudi Arabia (X units), Iran (X units) and Jordan (X units) - each resulted at a 5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to calendering machine exports from Turkey stood at +8.4%. At the same time, Jordan (+27.7%), Israel (+16.7%) and Saudi Arabia (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Jordan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +27.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-2.4%) and Iran (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+15 p.p.) and Israel (+4.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Iran (-3.6 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-9.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Israel ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 92% of total exports. Saudi Arabia, Iran and Jordan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.7%.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Jordan, with a CAGR of +14.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, growing by 27% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 39%. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Jordan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+2.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of calendering and rolling machines, when their volume increased by 41% to X units. Overall, imports posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, calendering machine imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +41.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Turkey (X units) represented the largest importer of calendering and rolling machines, mixing up 47% of total imports. Qatar (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Israel (X units) and Iraq (X units). All these countries together held approx. 39% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates (X units), Egypt (X units) and Morocco (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Morocco (+29.6%), Qatar (+28.3%), Iraq (+18.0%) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +29.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Egypt (-2.9%) and Israel (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Qatar (+17 p.p.), Turkey (+12 p.p.), Iraq (+3.7 p.p.) and Morocco (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Egypt (-4.6 p.p.) and Israel (-17.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported calendering and rolling machines in MENA, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with an 8.7% share.

In Turkey, calendering machine imports increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+10.6% per year) and Israel (+7.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 185%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+19.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
