The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 25%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports rose notably to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Turkey prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 76% of total exports in 2022. Saudi Arabia (X tons) took a 7.2% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Egypt (4.7%). The following exporters - Morocco (X tons) and Iran (X tons) - each accounted for a 4.7% share of total exports.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +8.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iran (+16.6%) and Saudi Arabia (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iran emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +16.6% from 2012-2022. Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Morocco (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+20 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Morocco (-2 p.p.), Saudi Arabia (-2.8 p.p.) and Egypt (-3.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery supplier in MENA, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 7.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 5.5% share.
In Turkey, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (+2.1% per year) and Saudi Arabia (+2.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 9% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA
Candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports reduced to X tons in 2022, waning by -8.2% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery imports contracted to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Saudi Arabia (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Yemen (X tons) and Israel (X tons) represented the largest importer of candies, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery in MENA, making up 67% of total import. Libya (X tons), Kuwait (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Oman (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +14.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest candy, sweets, and nonchocolate confectionery importing markets in MENA were Saudi Arabia ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Iraq ($X), with a combined 50% share of total imports. Israel, Yemen, Kuwait, Jordan, Libya, Turkey, Morocco, Lebanon, Oman and Syrian Arab Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 41%.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +16.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+5.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
