In 2021, carbon brush exports in MENA soared to X tons, growing by 39% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, carbon brush exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 61%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which accounted for 62% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons), together comprising a 34% share of total exports.

Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the carbon brushes exports, with a CAGR of +5.8% from 2012 to 2021. Tunisia (-3.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (-8.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+28 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Tunisia (-3 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (-25.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest carbon brush supplier in MENA, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

In Turkey, carbon brush exports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (+6.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+9.0% per year).

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Export price indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, carbon brush export price decreased by -12.5% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 39% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+19.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, imports of carbon brushes in MENA soared to X tons, growing by 36% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, carbon brush imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Tunisia represented the main importer of carbon brushes in MENA, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 32% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Iran (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Algeria (X tons), together making up a 47% share of total imports. The following importers - Iraq (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Israel (X tons) - together made up 13% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to carbon brush imports into Tunisia stood at +5.8%. At the same time, Algeria (+17.9%), the United Arab Emirates (+9.8%), Iraq (+9.2%), Iran (+4.0%) and Morocco (+2.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Algeria emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +17.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Israel (-1.4%), Turkey (-7.5%) and Egypt (-8.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tunisia (+22 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+11 p.p.), Iran (+8.8 p.p.), Algeria (+6.6 p.p.), Iraq (+3 p.p.) and Morocco (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Tunisia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported carbon brushes in MENA, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Tunisia amounted to +8.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (-3.4% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+7.2% per year).

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, surging by 24% against the previous year. Import price indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, carbon brush import price increased by +30.6% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 33% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
