Total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +73.6% against 2017 indices. In 2022, Turkey (X tons) was the key exporter of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene, creating 70% of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 11% share, followed by Palestine (9.9%) and Saudi Arabia (4.9%). The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +16.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Palestine (+35.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Palestine emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +35.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-1.2%), Kuwait (-1.6%) and the United Arab Emirates (-2.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey and Palestine increased by +31 and +8.6 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest polystyrene cellular plates, sheets and films supplier in MENA, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Palestine ($X), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by Kuwait, with a 13% share.
In Turkey, exports of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene increased at an average annual rate of +11.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Palestine (+34.5% per year) and Kuwait (-3.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 4.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable curtailment. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+0.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
Imports of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene amounted to X tons in 2022, growing by 1.6% compared with 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -0.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 59%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +17.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Iraq (X tons) was the largest importer of cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene, comprising 57% of total imports. Saudi Arabia (X tons) held a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Israel (6%). The following importers - the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Oman (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) - together made up 15% of total imports.
Iraq was also the fastest-growing in terms of the cellular plates, sheets and films of polyymers of styrene imports, with a CAGR of +25.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Morocco (+20.0%), Saudi Arabia (+13.7%), Kuwait (+7.0%), Israel (+5.2%) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Qatar (-4.5%) and Oman (-7.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, the largest polystyrene cellular plates, sheets and films importing markets in MENA were Iraq ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Israel ($X), together comprising 60% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Morocco, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Morocco, with a CAGR of +19.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
