It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons) and Israel (X tons), together achieving a 27% share of total exports. The following exporters - Iran (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) - together made up 10% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iran (with a CAGR of +43.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest cereal germ supplying countries in MENA were Turkey ($X), Syrian Arab Republic ($X) and Egypt ($X), together comprising 73% of total exports. These countries were followed by Israel, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Iran, which together accounted for a further 23%.
Among the main exporting countries, Iran, with a CAGR of +37.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -20.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 12%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of cereal germ increased by 31% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +62.9% against 2018 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
