The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) represented the largest importers of citrus fruits not elsewhere classified in 2022, reaching near 28% and 27% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Oman (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Jordan (X tons), together making up a 40% share of total imports. Yemen (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Israel (with a CAGR of +93.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Kuwait ($X) and Oman ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 68% share of total imports. Iraq, Israel, Jordan and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.
Israel, with a CAGR of +63.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted a resilient increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Jordan ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
