Turkey prevails in exports structure, amounting to X tons, which was near 95% of total exports in 2022. Egypt (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to common clay exports from Turkey stood at +34.3%. At the same time, Egypt (+48.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +48.6% from 2012-2022. The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -68.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Turkey stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+17.0%).

Imports in MENA
In 2022, the amount of common clay imported in MENA plummeted to X tons, dropping by -35.3% compared with the year before. In general, imports saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, common clay imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the major importer of common clay in MENA, mixing up 75% of total import. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X tons), making up a 13% share of total imports. Israel (X tons), Morocco (X tons) and Oman (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Morocco (with a CAGR of +17.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest common clay importing markets in MENA were Algeria ($X), Turkey ($X) and Tunisia ($X), with a combined 65% share of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Israel, Morocco and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +17.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 34% against the previous year. Import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, common clay import price increased by +58.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+10.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
