In 2021, after four years of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates, when their volume decreased by -3.2% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 34%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell slightly in the following year.
In value terms, coffee extract exports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted in the following year.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the key exporters of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates in 2021, recording approx. 32% and 31% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Jordan (X tons) and Egypt (X tons), together creating a 25% share of total exports. Yemen (X tons) and Israel (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +35.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Morocco ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 71% of total exports.
The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +40.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately mirroring the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, imports of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates in MENA rose to X tons, picking up by 3.6% compared with the year before. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -7.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, coffee extract imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -0.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) was the largest importer of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates in MENA, making up 51% of total import. Lebanon (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Iraq (X tons), Israel (X tons) and Jordan (X tons). All these countries together held near 25% share of total imports. Kuwait (X tons), Iran (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +19.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 46% of total imports. These countries were followed by Israel, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Qatar, Iran, Oman and Syrian Arab Republic, which together accounted for a further 43%.
Among the main importing countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +17.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 2.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 4.4%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
