The MENA's concentrated grapefruit juice market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, surging by 18% against the previous year. Concentrated grapefruit juice exports expanded remarkably to X tons in 2021, with an increase of 14% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice exports dropped modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 64%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Israel prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 93% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - Turkey (X tons) and Egypt (X tons) - each reached a 3.4% share of total exports.

Exports from Israel decreased at an average annual rate of -4.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Turkey (+19.5%) and Egypt (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +19.5% from 2012-2021. Turkey (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest concentrated grapefruit juice supplier in MENA, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 1.9% share of total exports.

In Israel, concentrated grapefruit juice exports shrank by an average annual rate of -3.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+27.3% per year) and Egypt (+11.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -15.3% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, concentrated grapefruit juice export price decreased by -37.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 49% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+8.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of concentrated grapefruit juice increased by 66% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice imports expanded sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 98%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kuwait (X tons) and Israel (X tons) dominates imports structure, together making up 88% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Turkey (X tons), creating a 4.9% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Kuwait (with a CAGR of +42.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, Israel ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported concentrated grapefruit juice in MENA, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kuwait ($X), with a 23% share of total imports.

In Israel, concentrated grapefruit juice imports contracted by an average annual rate of -4.3% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kuwait (+30.0% per year) and Turkey (+1.1% per year).

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -31.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 72%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
