In 2021, overseas shipments of cow peas (dry) were finally on the rise to reach X tons after three years of decline. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 1,368%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Turkey was the major exporter of cow peas (dry) in MENA, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was near 75% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), making up a 24% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 5.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the export price increased by 26%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates totaled $X per ton.

In 2021, the amount of cow peas (dry) imported in MENA skyrocketed to X tons, rising by 57% on the year before. Overall, imports recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 102% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Among the main importing countries, Egypt, with a CAGR of +30.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 16% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a mild downturn. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+2.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
