The MENA's curtains market reduced dramatically to $X in 2022, dropping by -23.7% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a drastic downturn. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Curtains Production in MENA
In value terms, curtains production reduced rapidly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, showed a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in MENA
In 2022, after five years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of curtains and interior blinds, when their volume decreased by -6.8% to X square meters. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +66.7% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X square meters in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, curtains exports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 15%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
Turkey represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X square meters, which resulted at 69% of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X square meters) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Egypt (9.2%) and Tunisia (7.1%).
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the curtains and interior blinds exports, with a CAGR of +10.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+7.6%) and Egypt (+5.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Tunisia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Turkey (+16 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Egypt and Tunisia saw its share reduced by -2.7% and -7.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest curtains supplier in MENA, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Tunisia ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 10% share.
In Turkey, curtains exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tunisia (-0.5% per year) and Egypt (+0.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per square meter in 2022, picking up by 2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per square meter), while the United Arab Emirates ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2022, approx. X square meters of curtains and interior blinds were imported in MENA; dropping by -7.1% on 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X square meters in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, curtains imports reduced to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X square meters) and the United Arab Emirates (X square meters) represented roughly 47% of total imports in 2022. Iraq (X square meters) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Algeria (X square meters), Israel (X square meters) and Morocco (X square meters). All these countries together held approx. 35% share of total imports. Qatar (X square meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +14.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest curtains importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports. Iraq, Algeria, Morocco and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +10.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per square meter, declining by -3.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 9.7%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per square meter), while Saudi Arabia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
