In 2022, the MENA's dairy machinery market decreased by -5.2% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
Dairy Machinery Production in MENA
In value terms, dairy machinery production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.
Dairy Machinery Exports
Exports in MENA
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of dairy machinery decreased by -50.9% to X units in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 174%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
In value terms, dairy machinery exports reduced slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X units) represented the key exporter of dairy machinery, mixing up 78% of total exports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), generating a 16% share of total exports. Iran (X units) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to dairy machinery exports from Turkey stood at +13.9%. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+18.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +18.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Iran (-3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+11 p.p.) and the United Arab Emirates (+6.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Iran (-6.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest dairy machinery supplier in MENA, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 18% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey amounted to +15.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+13.6% per year) and Iran (-8.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 97% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a slight decline. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Iran ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+1.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Dairy Machinery Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2022, purchases abroad of dairy machinery increased by 31% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 124% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, dairy machinery imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a slight reduction. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Algeria (X units), distantly followed by Qatar (X units), Iraq (X units), Turkey (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units), Iran (X units) and Morocco (X units) represented the major importers of dairy machinery, together committing 79% of total imports. Egypt (X units), Israel (X units), Oman (X units), Libya (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Bahrain (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +65.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Algeria ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together accounting for 53% of total imports. Iraq, Morocco, Egypt, Israel, Qatar, Iran, Bahrain, Oman, Libya and Tunisia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 34%.
Qatar, with a CAGR of +43.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 8.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the import price increased by 57% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+10.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
