Imports in MENA
In 2021, approx. X tons of dental cements and bone reconstruction cements were imported in MENA; jumping by 46% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 67%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. In 2021, the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) represented the main importer of dental cements and bone reconstruction cements in MENA, comprising 51% of total import. It was distantly followed by Iran (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Israel (X tons), together committing a 26% share of total imports. Oman (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Libya (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +26.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 49% of total imports. These countries were followed by Israel, Iran, Egypt, Iraq, Algeria, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Oman and Syrian Arab Republic, which together accounted for a further 44%.
Iraq, with a CAGR of +21.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 12% against the previous year. Import price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, medical reconstruction cements import price increased by +109.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 87% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
