In Turkey, dog and cat food exports increased at an average annual rate of +62.8% over the period from 2012-2021.

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -7.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 39% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Turkey stood at $X per ton.

For the tenth year in a row, MENA recorded growth in purchases abroad of dog and cat food, which increased by 22% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate buoyant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, dog and cat food imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 27%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tons) and Israel (X tons) represented the key importers of dog and cat food in 2021, resulting at approx. 31% and 24% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together achieving a 24% share of total imports. The following importers - Lebanon (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Algeria (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +58.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest dog and cat food importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), Israel ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), with a combined 70% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar, Lebanon, Kuwait, Iraq and Algeria, which together accounted for a further 24%.
Iraq, with a CAGR of +63.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 2.8% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 10%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Qatar ($X per ton), while Algeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
