Turkey prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Iran (X tons), generating a 6.1% share of total exports. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to double or complex silicates exports from Turkey stood at +15.2%. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+26.4%) and Iran (+19.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, double or complex silicates imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 81%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Turkey represented the key importer of double or complex silicates in MENA, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was approx. 39% of total imports in 2021. Saudi Arabia (X tons) held a 17% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Egypt (12%), the United Arab Emirates (8.4%) and Israel (7.6%). Morocco (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to double or complex silicates imports into Turkey stood at +5.1%. At the same time, Iraq (+29.5%), Saudi Arabia (+9.4%) and the United Arab Emirates (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iraq emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +29.5% from 2012-2021. Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Israel (-1.5%), Morocco (-10.4%) and Yemen (-17.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Turkey (+20 p.p.), Saudi Arabia (+12 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+3.6 p.p.), Egypt (+2.6 p.p.) and Iraq (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Morocco (-3.5 p.p.) and Yemen (-4.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest double or complex silicates importing markets in MENA were Saudi Arabia ($X), Turkey ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), together accounting for 67% of total imports. These countries were followed by Egypt, Israel, Iraq, Morocco and Yemen, which together accounted for a further 23%.

Among the main importing countries, Iraq, with a CAGR of +36.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, surging by 6.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 73% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
