In 2022, the MENA's dried grapes market decreased by -5.7% to $X, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dried grapes production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MENA
In 2022, overseas shipments of dried grapes increased by 0.9% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 9.8%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, dried grapes exports reduced modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Turkey represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Iran (X tons), comprising a 31% share of total exports.
Turkey was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dried grapes exports, with a CAGR of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iran (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest dried grapes supplier in MENA, comprising 73% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Iran ($X), with a 26% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Turkey was relatively modest.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, shrinking by -3.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the export price increased by 20% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Iran stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (-2.9%).
Dried Grapes Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2022, approx. X tons of dried grapes were imported in MENA; with a decrease of -13.1% on 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 67%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, dried grapes imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +1.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 83%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X tons), distantly followed by Morocco (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the largest importers of dried grapes, together committing 77% of total imports. The following importers - Israel (X tons), Iran (X tons), Iraq (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Oman (X tons) - together made up 17% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Yemen (with a CAGR of +62.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest dried grapes importing markets in MENA were Turkey ($X), Morocco ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), together comprising 55% of total imports. The United Arab Emirates, Algeria, Yemen, Israel, Iran, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and Oman lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 39%.
Yemen, with a CAGR of +57.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 9.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 9.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+5.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
