Exports by Country
Israel (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Turkey (X units) represented roughly 90% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Jordan (X units), comprising a 5.4% share of total exports. Oman (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Israel (with a CAGR of +2.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest dry-cleaning machine supplier in MENA, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Israel, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to -4.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-3.3% per year) and Israel (+21.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, with a decrease of -29.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the export price increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Israel ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+19.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, overseas purchases of dry-cleaning machines decreased by -71.4% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 1,290% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dry-cleaning machine imports declined sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports faced a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Qatar (X units) represented the largest importer of dry-cleaning machines, making up 62% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), mixing up a 12% share of total imports. The following importers - Israel (X units), Morocco (X units), Iraq (X units), Kuwait (X units), Iran (X units), Tunisia (X units), Algeria (X units) and Turkey (X units) - together made up 22% of total imports.
Imports into Qatar decreased at an average annual rate of -14.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Morocco (+6.3%) and Israel (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +6.3% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kuwait (-5.7%), Iran (-6.4%), the United Arab Emirates (-6.7%), Iraq (-8.6%), Algeria (-13.6%), Turkey (-15.5%) and Tunisia (-16.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Qatar (+17 p.p.), the United Arab Emirates (+8.4 p.p.), Israel (+3.6 p.p.), Morocco (+3 p.p.), Kuwait (+2.1 p.p.), Iraq (+1.9 p.p.) and Iran (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dry-cleaning machines in MENA, comprising 28% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kuwait ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at -10.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kuwait (-4.1% per year) and Turkey (-15.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, surging by 168% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 739% against the previous year.
