In value terms, dry vegetable production rose significantly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -5.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 30%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2021 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MENA
In 2022, approx. X tons of dry vegetables were exported in MENA; with an increase of 3.1% compared with 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, dry vegetable exports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Egypt (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) dominates exports structure, together committing 81% of total exports. Tunisia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 9.2% share, followed by Israel (4.7%). Yemen (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Yemen (with a CAGR of +25.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Egypt ($X), Turkey ($X) and Israel ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, with a combined 89% share of total exports. Tunisia and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 7.5%.
Yemen, with a CAGR of +12.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+3.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Dry Vegetable Imports
Imports in MENA
In 2022, overseas purchases of dry vegetables increased by 6.7% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 132% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
In value terms, dry vegetable imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 179% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Israel was the main importer of dry vegetables in MENA, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 73% of total imports in 2022. Turkey (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 11% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (5.2%). Palestine (X tons) and Iraq (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Israel was also the fastest-growing in terms of the dry vegetables imports, with a CAGR of +34.8% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iraq (+20.0%), Turkey (+11.7%) and Palestine (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. The United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Israel increased by +57 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Israel ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dry vegetables in MENA, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 7.2% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 2.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Israel amounted to +36.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+6.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+4.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, dry vegetable import price increased by +55.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
