Market Size for Duck and Goose Meat in MENA

The MENA's duck and goose meat market declined slightly to $X in 2022, dropping by -4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption showed a pronounced descent. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Production of Duck and Goose Meat in MENA

In value terms, duck and goose meat production expanded rapidly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 73% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2016 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.

The country with the largest volume of duck and goose meat production was Egypt (X tons), accounting for 74% of total volume. Moreover, duck and goose meat production in Egypt exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Iran (X tons), more than tenfold. Israel (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume in Egypt amounted to -4.4%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Iran (-0.6% per year) and Israel (+0.3% per year).

In 2022, the average yield of duck and goose meat in MENA fell modestly to X kg per head, with a decrease of -4.4% against 2021 figures. Overall, the yield continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 4.7% against the previous year. The level of yield peaked at X kg per head in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In 2022, approx. X heads of animals slaughtered for duck and goose meat production in MENA; growing by 3.5% on the year before. Overall, the number of producing animals, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the number of producing animals increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, this number reached the peak level at X heads in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, producing animals failed to regain momentum.

Exports in MENA

After five years of growth, overseas shipments of duck and goose meat decreased by -66.2% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports showed a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, duck and goose meat exports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Turkey prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 87% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), making up a 6.2% share of total exports. Egypt (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Egypt (+25.8%) and the United Arab Emirates (+9.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +25.8% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt increased by +55, +4.2 and +3.5 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest duck and goose meat supplier in MENA, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.

In Turkey, duck and goose meat exports increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+12.3% per year) and Egypt (+22.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports of Duck and Goose Meat

Imports in MENA

Duck and goose meat imports reduced sharply to X tons in 2022, dropping by -26.3% on the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 222% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, duck and goose meat imports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 167% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Iraq (X tons) was the main importer of duck and goose meat, making up 48% of total imports. Israel (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Kuwait (X tons) and Bahrain (X tons). All these countries together took near 43% share of total imports. Qatar (X tons) and Yemen (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Iraq increased at an average annual rate of +17.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bahrain (+23.8%), Yemen (+20.7%), Israel (+9.8%) and Kuwait (+6.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +23.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-1.1%) and Qatar (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Iraq, Israel, Bahrain and Yemen increased by +34, +7.3, +3.9 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Israel ($X), Iraq ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 82% of total imports. Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Yemen lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

Yemen, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -12.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 121%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Qatar (+2.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
