The total production indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +1.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the production volume increased by 29% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports in MENA
In 2022, the amount of equipment for internal combustion engines exported in MENA soared to X units, rising by 107% compared with 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 188% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, internal combustion engine equipment exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a temperate increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 128% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Saudi Arabia dominates exports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 76% of total exports in 2022. Tunisia (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 9.1% share, followed by Turkey (6.9%) and Bahrain (5.5%).
Exports from Saudi Arabia increased at an average annual rate of +36.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Bahrain (+72.8%) and Turkey (+4.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +72.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tunisia (-22.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Saudi Arabia (+74 p.p.), Bahrain (+5.5 p.p.) and Turkey (+3.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Tunisia saw its share reduced by -75.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) remains the largest internal combustion engine equipment supplier in MENA, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 16% share.
In Saudi Arabia, internal combustion engine equipment exports increased at an average annual rate of +35.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+15.3% per year) and Tunisia (-12.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, waning by -30.4% against the previous year. Export price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, internal combustion engine equipment export price increased by +21.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 64% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Bahrain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tunisia (+12.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
Imports of Equipment For Internal Combustion Engines
Imports in MENA
In 2022, purchases abroad of equipment for internal combustion engines was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, internal combustion engine equipment imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 41% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Turkey (X units) represented the major importer of equipment for internal combustion engines, achieving 39% of total imports. Egypt (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Iraq (12%), the United Arab Emirates (9.1%), Iran (7.2%) and Algeria (6.5%). Tunisia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of equipment for internal combustion engines. At the same time, Iraq (+17.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Iraq emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +17.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tunisia (-2.9%), the United Arab Emirates (-6.7%), Iran (-7.2%), Algeria (-10.3%) and Egypt (-12.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+13 p.p.) and Iraq (+10 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Algeria and Egypt saw its share reduced by -2.6%, -2.7%, -5.9% and -16% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported equipment for internal combustion engines in MENA, comprising 33% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Egypt, with a 10% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey stood at -1.4%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+4.5% per year) and Egypt (+1.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, increasing by 3.9% against the previous year. Import price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, internal combustion engine equipment import price increased by +75.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 35%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
