In 2021, Turkey (X units) was the major exporter of extruders for working rubber or plastics, creating 49% of total exports. Tunisia (X units) held a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (15%) and Israel (4.6%). Morocco (X units) and Bahrain (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +20.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Morocco (+54.2%), Tunisia (+38.4%), Bahrain (+15.1%) and Israel (+12.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Morocco emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +54.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-8.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+28 p.p.), Tunisia (+22 p.p.) and Morocco (+3.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United Arab Emirates saw its share reduced by -54.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest plastic extruder supplier in MENA, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 6.2% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 3.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey totaled +14.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Israel (+8.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-2.3% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -5.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the export price increased by 111% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per unit), while Bahrain ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+6.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, purchases abroad of extruders for working rubber or plastics increased by 39% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 59%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, plastic extruder imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Morocco (X units) and Israel (X units) represented the main importers of extruders for working rubber or plastics in MENA, together recording near 50% of total imports. Egypt (X units) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (10%), Iran (6.3%) and the United Arab Emirates (5%). Algeria (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +7.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported extruders for working rubber or plastics in MENA, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with an 8% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +5.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (+9.0% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (-12.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 4.4% against the previous year. Import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, plastic extruder import price increased by +65.3% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 43%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
