The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -31.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed notable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 209%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Yemen ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Oman (+0.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, overseas purchases of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked) increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, preserved fish fillet imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 36%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The purchases of the four major importers of fish fillets (dried, salted or in brine, but not smoked), namely Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Kuwait, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Israel (X tons), Qatar (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons), together committing a 20% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +65.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Tunisia ($X), Israel ($X) and Turkey ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 66% share of total imports.
Turkey, with a CAGR of +47.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, waning by -6.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
