Turkey (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Oman (X tons) and Jordan (X tons). All these countries together took near 37% share of total exports. The following exporters - Tunisia (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) - together made up 9.5% of total exports.

Exports from Israel decreased at an average annual rate of -5.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Tunisia (+34.7%), Oman (+16.6%) and Jordan (+16.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +34.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-11.0%), Turkey (-16.6%) and Egypt (-22.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Israel (+27 p.p.), Oman (+11 p.p.), Jordan (+4.3 p.p.) and Tunisia (+3.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Egypt (-7.5 p.p.) and Turkey (-11.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Israel ($X), Turkey ($X) and Oman ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 85% of total exports. Tunisia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

Among the main exporting countries, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +33.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 68%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while Jordan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+12.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Moreover, Syrian Arab Republic emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +29.5% from 2012-2022. Iran, Algeria and the United Arab Emirates experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Tunisia (-1.6%), Yemen (-4.2%) and Turkey (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Saudi Arabia (+37 p.p.), Syrian Arab Republic (+4.4 p.p.), Israel (+4.1 p.p.), Egypt (+4.1 p.p.) and Qatar (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Turkey saw its share reduced by -12.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
