In 2021, the amount of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines exported in MENA soared to X tons, growing by 71% against 2020. Overall, exports recorded a notable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 150%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine exports rose notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 48% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Jordan (X tons) and Israel (X tons) dominates exports structure, together creating 78% of total exports. Kuwait (X tons) took an 8.3% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Turkey (5.9%). Egypt (X tons) and Iran (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Israel (with a CAGR of +148.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine supplying countries in MENA were Israel ($X), Jordan ($X) and Iran ($X), together comprising 95% of total exports.
Iran, with a CAGR of +24.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -35.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 199%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iran ($X per ton), while Kuwait ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+26.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, purchases abroad of fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines decreased by -19.1% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 75%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodine imports fell significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 49%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Saudi Arabia (X tons) and Israel (X tons) represented roughly 55% of total imports in 2021. Djibouti (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Iraq (7.5%). The following importers - Morocco (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Palestine (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Lebanon (X tons), Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) - together made up 20% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Djibouti (with a CAGR of +79.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fluorine, chlorine, bromine and iodines in MENA, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Djibouti, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Saudi Arabia stood at +18.3%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Israel (+18.9% per year) and Djibouti (+68.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, waning by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 29% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
