The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, baby food exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 38%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 50% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons), Iran (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Egypt (X tons), together generating a 45% share of total exports. Morocco (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from the United Arab Emirates increased at an average annual rate of +14.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Saudi Arabia (+36.7%), Egypt (+13.0%), Turkey (+3.4%) and Morocco (+3.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Saudi Arabia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +36.7% from 2012-2021. Iran experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. The United Arab Emirates (+18 p.p.), Saudi Arabia (+14 p.p.) and Egypt (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Morocco, Turkey and Iran saw its share reduced by -1.6%, -4.8% and -13.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest baby food supplier in MENA, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Iran, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates totaled +15.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (+40.9% per year) and Iran (-0.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 21% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 27%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, imports of food preparations for infants in MENA skyrocketed to X tons, increasing by 17% compared with 2020 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 24%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, baby food imports stood at $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
The countries with the highest levels of baby food imports in 2021 were Saudi Arabia (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Algeria (X tons) and Iraq (X tons), together accounting for 60% of total import. Libya (X tons) held a 7.3% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (5.1%). The following importers - Egypt (X tons), Yemen (X tons), Israel (X tons), Jordan (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Lebanon (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) - together made up 20% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Iraq (with a CAGR of +29.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported food preparations for infants in MENA, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Algeria ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 12% share.
In Saudi Arabia, baby food imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Algeria (+5.4% per year) and Turkey (+10.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
