From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of carcases, amongst the main producing countries, was attained by Israel (with a CAGR of +10.7%), while carcases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports in MENA
For the fourth year in a row, MENA recorded growth in shipments abroad of fresh or chilled pig meat other than cuts or carcases, which increased by 39% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 120% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, exports of fresh or chilled pig meat other than cuts or carcases expanded to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 126%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Imports of fresh or chilled pig meat other than cuts or carcases fell slightly to X tons in 2022, reducing by -2.7% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 35%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

At the same time, Lebanon (+29.9%), Oman (+27.1%), Saudi Arabia (+18.8%), Kuwait (+11.0%) and Turkey (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lebanon emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +29.9% from 2012-2022. While the share of Turkey (+13 p.p.), Lebanon (+7.7 p.p.) and Oman (+5.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of the United Arab Emirates (-25.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fresh or chilled pig meat other than cuts or carcases in MENA, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 7.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Lebanon, with a 5.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates totaled +7.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+5.5% per year) and Lebanon (+26.2% per year).
