In value terms, frozen whole turkey production totaled $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the production volume increased by 19%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

The country with the largest volume of frozen whole turkey production was Turkey (X tons), accounting for 53% of total volume. Moreover, frozen whole turkey production in Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Saudi Arabia (X tons), fourfold. Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Turkey totaled +4.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Saudi Arabia (-3.1% per year) and Syrian Arab Republic (-1.6% per year).

Frozen Whole Turkey Exports

Exports in MENA

In 2022, the amount of frozen whole turkeys exported in MENA reached X tons, growing by 11% compared with 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 112%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen whole turkey exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 117% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Turkey (X tons) represented the main exporter of frozen whole turkeys, creating 56% of total exports. Israel (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 22% share, followed by the United Arab Emirates (6%) and Egypt (5.3%). Jordan (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to frozen whole turkey exports from Turkey stood at +7.4%. At the same time, Egypt (+21.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +21.1% from 2012-2022. Israel experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-3.0%), Kuwait (-3.7%), Jordan (-10.7%) and Oman (-11.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Israel and Egypt increased by +39, +7.3 and +4.8 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest frozen whole turkey supplier in MENA, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 7.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey amounted to +5.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Israel (+0.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 5.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 15%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kuwait (+8.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA

In 2022, the amount of frozen whole turkeys imported in MENA dropped significantly to X tons, with a decrease of -24.1% against the previous year. Overall, imports recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 201% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, frozen whole turkey imports declined significantly to $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 146% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates represented the major importer of frozen whole turkeys in MENA, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 47% of total imports in 2022. Palestine (X tons) took an 8.6% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Oman (7.9%), Lebanon (6.2%), Qatar (5.7%), Kuwait (5.2%) and Iraq (4.9%).

Imports into the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -8.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Oman (+12.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Oman emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in MENA, with a CAGR of +12.4% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Palestine (-1.4%), Iraq (-3.3%), Kuwait (-10.3%), Lebanon (-10.7%) and Qatar (-30.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United Arab Emirates (+21 p.p.), Oman (+7.3 p.p.), Palestine (+6.3 p.p.), Iraq (+3.3 p.p.), Lebanon (+1.7 p.p.) and Kuwait (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Qatar saw its share reduced by -42.1% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported frozen whole turkeys in MENA, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Oman ($X), with a 9.3% share of total imports. It was followed by Palestine, with an 8.9% share.

In the United Arab Emirates, frozen whole turkey imports declined by an average annual rate of -6.5% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (+14.5% per year) and Palestine (-1.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the import price increased by 27%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Oman ($X per ton) and Qatar ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
