For the fifth year in a row, MENA recorded growth in shipments abroad of gas supply or production meters, which increased by 84% to X units in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, gas supply meter exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 82% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Turkey (X units) was the key exporter of gas supply or production meters, creating 70% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Tunisia (X units) and Egypt (X units), together mixing up a 29% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to gas supply meter exports from Turkey stood at +25.0%. At the same time, Tunisia (+41.0%) and Egypt (+23.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tunisia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +41.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Tunisia and Turkey increased by +15 and +8.1 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest gas supply meter supplier in MENA, comprising 55% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.

In Turkey, gas supply meter exports increased at an average annual rate of +16.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (+40.4% per year) and Tunisia (+27.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, which is down by -18.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per unit), while Tunisia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+13.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, overseas purchases of gas supply or production meters decreased by -64.4% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, imports continue to indicate a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 46%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

In value terms, gas supply meter imports reduced modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports recorded a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 23%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the four major importers of gas supply or production meters, namely Turkey, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Israel, represented more than two-thirds of total import. It was distantly followed by Iraq (X units), comprising a 5.7% share of total imports. The following importers - Oman (X units) and Iran (X units) - each amounted to a 3.3% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Iraq (with a CAGR of +12.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported gas supply or production meters in MENA, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with an 8.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Turkey was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the United Arab Emirates (+6.9% per year) and Israel (-1.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 172% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a slight expansion. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Iran ($X per unit), while Egypt ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
