In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest grape must supplier in MENA, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 24% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Israel totaled -10.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+71.7% per year) and Lebanon (+2.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per litre in 2021, with a decrease of -6.8% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 46% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Lebanon ($X per litre), while Israel ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+2.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

For the tenth year in a row, MENA recorded growth in purchases abroad of grape must, which increased by 18% to X litres in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 57%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, grape must imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 32%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Israel was the key importer of grape must in MENA, with the volume of imports reaching X litres, which was approx. 54% of total imports in 2021. Algeria (X litres) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 34% share, followed by Turkey (5.9%). Oman (X litres) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +73.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in MENA stood at $X per litre in 2021, increasing by 3.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 7.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per litre), while Algeria ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
