Plastic Headgear Market Size in MENA

In 2022, the MENA's plastic headgear market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year declining trend. The total consumption indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic headgear production soared to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 6,940% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports in MENA

Plastic headgear exports fell dramatically to X units in 2022, which is down by -44.6% against the previous year. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 312% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plastic headgear exports shrank dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 943% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey represented the key exporter of headgear of rubber or plastic in MENA, with the volume of exports finishing at X units, which was near 65% of total exports in 2022. Israel (X units) took a 14% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the United Arab Emirates (12%) and Syrian Arab Republic (5.1%).

Exports from Turkey increased at an average annual rate of +29.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Syrian Arab Republic (+63.4%), Israel (+36.1%) and the United Arab Emirates (+15.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Syrian Arab Republic emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +63.4% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Turkey, Israel and Syrian Arab Republic increased by +25, +8.8 and +4.8 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest plastic headgear supplier in MENA, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Israel amounted to +59.3%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+20.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+11.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -34.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a measured expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 153%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+17.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA

In 2022, supplies from abroad of headgear of rubber or plastic increased by 20% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a pronounced decline. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, plastic headgear imports soared to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +96.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 89%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of headgear of rubber or plastic, namely Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq, represented more than half of total import. Algeria (X units) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Israel (X units) and Morocco (X units). All these countries together took near 20% share of total imports. The following importers - Oman (X units), Kuwait (X units), Djibouti (X units), Yemen (X units), Libya (X units), Tunisia (X units) and Qatar (X units) - together made up 17% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +28.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic headgear importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 31% share of total imports. Iraq, Morocco, Algeria, Kuwait, Qatar, Yemen, Oman, Djibouti, Tunisia and Libya lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.

Among the main importing countries, Oman, with a CAGR of +20.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, with an increase of 4.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the import price increased by 204%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per unit), while Oman ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
