The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -34.7% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 106%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were Turkey (X tons), Iran (X tons) and Egypt (X tons), together comprising 56% of total production. Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Israel lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +4.7%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports in MENA

In 2022, approx. X tons of chicken eggs were exported in MENA; with a decrease of -10% compared with the year before. In general, exports recorded a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 27%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chicken egg exports totaled $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Turkey dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2022. The United Arab Emirates (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Turkey experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of chicken eggs. At the same time, the United Arab Emirates (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United Arab Emirates emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in MENA, with a CAGR of +7.1% from 2012-2022. Turkey (+6.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the largest chicken egg supplier in MENA, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 3.1% share of total exports.

In Turkey, chicken egg exports increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012-2022.

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Export price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, chicken egg export price increased by +61.3% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton), while Turkey totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+2.2%).

Imports in MENA

In 2022, imports of chicken eggs in MENA expanded to X tons, growing by 3% compared with 2021. Total imports indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +16.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chicken egg imports shrank to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +32.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Iraq (X tons), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Qatar (X tons), Oman (X tons) and Syrian Arab Republic (X tons) were the major importers of chicken eggs, together committing 88% of total imports. Bahrain (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Qatar (with a CAGR of +67.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Iraq ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Qatar, Oman, Syrian Arab Republic and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

Qatar, with a CAGR of +49.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in MENA amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -7.4% against the previous year. Import price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, chicken egg import price increased by +52.3% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($X per ton), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+2.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
