Egypt represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 65% of total exports. Turkey (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 18% share, followed by Iran (5.7%) and the United Arab Emirates (5.4%). Lebanon (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Egypt was also the fastest-growing in terms of the homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades exports, with a CAGR of +20.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iran (+7.8%) and Turkey (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, the United Arab Emirates (-2.6%) and Lebanon (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest homogenised jam and marmalade supplier in MENA, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates, with a 4.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Egypt stood at +31.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (-2.3% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 18% against the previous year. Export price indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, homogenised jam and marmalade export price increased by +109.2% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the export price increased by 46%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in MENA

In 2022, overseas purchases of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades increased by 1.4% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 53%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, homogenised jam and marmalade imports rose slightly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 46%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Algeria (X tons), distantly followed by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), Israel (X tons), Libya (X tons), Iran (X tons), Iraq (X tons) and Kuwait (X tons) represented the largest importers of homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades, together constituting 88% of total imports.

Algeria was also the fastest-growing in terms of the homogenised preparations of jams, fruit jellies and marmalades imports, with a CAGR of +18.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Iraq (+16.5%), Libya (+10.0%), Israel (+6.8%), the United Arab Emirates (+5.5%), Kuwait (+3.6%) and Iran (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Algeria, with a CAGR of +12.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in MENA stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 3.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 23%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Iraq ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
