Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 239%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pharmaceutical rubber articles exports declined dramatically to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 102% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
The United Arab Emirates (X units) and Turkey (X units) represented roughly 64% of total exports in 2021. Iran (X units) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Oman (7.7%), Lebanon (7.3%) and Israel (5.1%).
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Oman (with a CAGR of +51.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest pharmaceutical rubber articles supplier in MENA, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Oman, with a 10% share.
In the United Arab Emirates, pharmaceutical rubber articles exports increased at an average annual rate of +18.6% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (-6.3% per year) and Oman (+55.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, declining by -13.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 45% against the previous year. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Iran ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+19.6%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2021, supplies from abroad of hygienic or pharmaceutical articles of rubber decreased by -1.1% to X units, falling for the fourth consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 20%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, pharmaceutical rubber articles imports amounted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) were the main importers of hygienic or pharmaceutical articles of rubber in MENA, together achieving 44% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Iraq (X units), Qatar (X units), Morocco (X units), Yemen (X units) and Iran (X units), together achieving a 38% share of total imports. Israel (X units) and Algeria (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +20.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest pharmaceutical rubber articles importing markets in MENA were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Turkey ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 31% share of total imports. Qatar, Iraq, Morocco, Iran, Yemen and Algeria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
Yemen, with a CAGR of +20.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2021, picking up by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per unit), while Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
