Turkey (X units) and the United Arab Emirates (X units) prevails in exports structure, together creating 80% of total exports. Iran (X units) took an 8.5% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Egypt (8%). Syrian Arab Republic (X units) held a little share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Syrian Arab Republic (with a CAGR of +18.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest sugar-manufacturing industrial machinery supplying countries in MENA were Turkey ($X), the United Arab Emirates ($X) and Iran ($X), with a combined 98% share of total exports.
In terms of the main exporting countries, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +27.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in MENA amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -12.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit), while Egypt ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in MENA
In 2022, supplies from abroad of industrial machinery for the manufacture or preparation of sugar decreased by -18.5% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, showed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 119%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, sugar-manufacturing industrial machinery imports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 444% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Iran represented the major importer of industrial machinery for the manufacture or preparation of sugar in MENA, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was near 51% of total imports in 2022. Turkey (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Algeria (X units). All these countries together took near 37% share of total imports. The following importers - Syrian Arab Republic (X units) and Egypt (X units) - together made up 7.9% of total imports.
Iran was also the fastest-growing in terms of the industrial machinery for the manufacture or preparation of sugar imports, with a CAGR of +38.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Turkey (+22.4%), Algeria (+14.7%) and Syrian Arab Republic (+6.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Egypt (-3.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Iran, Turkey and Algeria increased by +47, +19 and +6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Iran ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported industrial machinery for the manufacture or preparation of sugar in MENA, comprising 43% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Algeria, with a 20% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Iran amounted to +30.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Turkey (+11.8% per year) and Algeria (+13.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in MENA stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -5% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 600%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per unit), while Syrian Arab Republic ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+1.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
